I am often asked, “How’s business going for you Jeff?” or “How’s Hibbard Construction holding up in these tough economic times?” These are questions that are asked of me on an almost daily basis and seem to be common questions asked of most business owners here in the Treasure Valley. Let me tell you that it’s been an interesting year to say the least. Many contractors have gone out of business, demand has slowed dramatically and home prices have fallen. Even so, we’re blessed with how God has carried us through these tough economic times and helped us endure industry pressures.

This is not the first time Hibbard Construction has survived an economic downturn. We faced a similar challenge in the early 80’s and learned some valuable lessons in the process. We learned the importance of customer service, providing our clients with maximum value and conservative business practices. Our belief that customer satisfaction is key to maintaining long lasting relationships and the word of mouth advertising from our customers is enabling us to withstand tough times once again.

At this time of the year we would like to pause and consider our blessings. We owe a world of thanks and gratitude to our clients for their repeat business, their recommendations to friends, relatives and colleagues and to our new friends who are trusting Hibbard Construction with their dreams. We truly wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at the Hibbard Construction family.

The Importance of a Legacy

Economists indicate that the start of the recession began in December 2007 and bottomed in March of 2009. Everyone felt the infamous housing bubble burst. Now here we are in the aftermath, taking stock and holding on while we dig ourselves out of one of the worst economic downturns in US history.

The Treasure Valley saw huge growth at the height of the housing market boom. Investing in land and building homes in Southwest Idaho brought developers from out of state and encouraged a multitude of construction companies to do business here in the Treasure Valley. According to a www.BuildIdaho.com report, there were 1,117 builders in 2005 compared to 187 builders today. One has to wonder about those builders who moved in to reap huge profits but have left just as quickly or went out of business leaving many home owners with warranties that are now null and void.

The silver lining to all of this is that our conservative business practices have helped us withstand the hardships of the recession. Our warranties are still valid and our clients have always been our number one priority.  We understand that the past is not a guarantee for the future.  However, a solid legacy does give us the wisdom and integrity to withstand  today's challenges.

We believe that our nearly 40 year legacy is an important foundation to rebuild the future of our economy.  Our business directly employs Idahoans and contributes to the stabilization of our local and national economy.  We are proud to be a business that directly contributes to the health of our community.

Jump Starting Our Local Economy

Main Content Inline Small

Consumer confidence has fallen dramatically with the economic downturn. Although we're seeing signs of recovery, it’s easy to think of this as a national problem. The reality is we each make an impact on our local economy. By choosing to invest in home improvements you get numerous benefits while helping put your neighbors back to work.

Consider this…when you hire a local, reputable contractor - like Hibbard Construction - you put to work dozens of folks like your friends, neighbors and relatives. Not only do the local suppliers and manufacturers employ more people, other businesses benefit (e.g. – restaurants, repair shops, retailers, etc.).

Spending your hard earned money with local businesses is like circling the wagons. This is how we help our local economy get healthier. Consumer spending leads to more demand, which means more production, which means more jobs and investment revenue, which can be turned back into the economy. Spending your money on something that boosts a foreign economy is the wrong way to go. Buying clothes, computers, and foodstuffs that come from countries other than our own does not help the job picture locally.

Home improvements, even on a conservative budget, have an impact. They are still sensible decisions even in a faltering or slow economy. The timing for such improvements has never been more cost effective. Building materials are at an all time low and labor costs are more reasonable than ever. Any improvements made to your home today will have an exponential impact when the housing market turns around. Simply because home prices are low now, does not mean that they will stay low for very long.

Your remodel or improvement project does more than improve your home and increase its value. The building industry with its associated trades is collectively the second largest employer in the Treasure Valley. When you hire a licensed contractor you provide employment opportunities for some of the finest local craftsmen and trades. That money stays here in the Valley and contributes to the growth of our local economy.

Our local economy is in desperate need of a kick-start and your project can truly make a crucial impact on beginning this process. Remember that shopping and sourcing locally is the only way we can help put our friends, relatives and neighbors back to work.

38 years and counting...

Our offices (located at 716 Cleveland Blvd in Caldwell) have gone through many renovations and remodels over the years. We moved to our downtown location in the 80's and although the appearance and layout has seen many changes, the way we do business remains constant.  We are very grateful and proud to be a long-standing member of our community and look forward to what the future holds!
